Gina Torkos Biography
Gina was born and grew up in Penfield, PA. Her love of art began there, sketching and painting the natural world around her. Although her formal education took her to the University of Pittsburgh for a masters degree in Speech Pathology, she kept her love of art alive by creating art therapy materials for publication and therapy use. While working full time and raising a family, Gina enrolled in numerous art classes and workshops, consistently filling her free time in the self-directed pursuit of artistic creativity. She explored various mediums but was especially drawn to oil painting. She was awarded a solo show of her Oil Paintings from Cambodia in 2013. Gina continued to experiment with mediums, and later that year started working in Collage. Gina uses both mediums to express her passion for oceans, beaches and marine life in Florida and in her travels, as well as the beauty in the cityscapes, people and energy of the cities.
Gina has recently been the recipient of several awards for her collages. In the past year, she has received a first place and a best of show award from the St. Augustine Art Association. In addition, her collage, "Minding the Nest" is also featured in the December 2016 issue of SouthWest Art Magazine, as a finalist in the 2016 Annual Artistic Excellence competition. Her work can be found in public and private collections throughout the country. She currently lives in St. Augustine, FL. and in New York City. She is represented by Aviles Gallery in St. Augustine, FL.
